Qualities of a Good Coffee

Coffee is part of the breakfast of thousands of people from all around the world. However, despite it being absolutely rooted in our routine and social customs, the truth is that we do not always know how to distinguish the qualities of a good cup of coffee.

One of the most common impressions when it comes to coffee is that it’s bitter. That’s very true but a good coffee shouldn’t have too much bitterness or acidity. In fact, it should have a pleasant taste even without having to add any type of cream or sweetener. There are several factors that can contribute to this such as its origin, how it’s grown, roasting method, grinding, packaging, etc.

In this article, we will give you some of the qualities that make a good cup of coffee.

COLOR

The roast method of the coffee influences its color. The lower the roast level, the lighter it will be, while if the roast level is higher, the color of the coffee will be almost black. Therefore, a medium degree of roasting is recommended without the coffee being overcooked or burned, allowing you to fully enjoy its flavor and aroma.

AROMA

By the smell you can recognize if a coffee is of good or bad quality. In a coffee shop, there are many aromas, some more pleasant than others. In general, the most pleasant ones tend to be floral, fruit, dried fruit, chocolates, caramel, berries, etc. The aromas that are not so appreciated in good quality coffees are the aromas of wood, earth, coal, rubber, rubber, straw, ash, etc.

FLAVOR

The flavor is fundamental when identifying if a coffee is good or not. Sometimes it can be said that the coffee should be bitter, but in reality it is just the opposite. A good coffee must have a balance of acidity and sweetness.

ROASTING DATE

Another quality that a good coffee must have is the roasting date and the origin. That is why, when buying it on the market, you have to look not only at the expiration date, but also the roasting date. This way, you will be able to know its degree of freshness which is a fundamental factor when it comes to enjoying a good coffee.

TYPE OF CUP

Although it may not seem like it, the type of cup also influences how you enjoy your coffee. For Instance, the ideal cup for espresso or cappuccino is the conical cup (narrower at the base), since the drink glides along its walls and when falling it forms a uniform hazelnut cream.
